The Role of FoBA at the Beauchamp Arms
The Beauchamp Arms was purchased by the parish council on behalf of the community in 1997. It was purchased to allow the parish hall to purchase some of the pub land to build an extension. This increased the hall's use and ensured that Dymock kept a pub for future generations. It has always been a principle that it remains a pub that serves food rather than a country restaurant that serves beer. The parish council rents the building to the landlord who runs his own business with the community in mind. It is in everyone's interest that the landlord and community both prosper. The Beauchamp Arms is one of the focal points of the parish and is a genuine village pub that warmly welcomes the visitors that come to enjoy the good food, fine beer and friendly company to be found there. The Friends Of the Beauchamp Arms (FOBA) was set up by enthusiastic locals with the aim of helping the parish council to maintain and develop the pub as a vital part of the community. FOBA organises raffles, dances, race nights, treasure hunts, quizzes, a tug of war competition and many other events that help to raise funds and enhance the social life of the community. At Christmas they erect a Tree of Light on Wintour's Green, and people can sponsor a light in memory of a departed loved one. The profits go to local charities. One of the most popular fund raisers is the Box Draw, as a one pound ticket can win you up to £500. Needless to say, locals and visitors are always keen to invest a pound when they buy a drink. We hope you really enjoy your visit to the Beauchamp Arms; we look forward to having the pleasure of your company many times in the future. |
